In celebration of her graduation this afternoon, Tanya Hernandez changed her cover photo on Facebook last night at 11:53 PM to an image of Coal Oil Point at sunset, with the caption “So blessed to have spent 4 years here at this beautiful beach 🙏 👌💞.” The photo was originally posted on Hernandez’s Instagram 16 months ago with the “Valencia” filter and the caption “Can’t believe I live here 😍 #itsokaytobejealous #nofilterneeded.” Admittedly Hernandez didn’t frequent the beach as much as she would have liked to while attending UCSB, but as she pointed out, “I hook up with a guy who lives oceanside on 65 and his balcony is huge, so I feel like I got the full UCSB experience.” Hernandez and other graduating students like her will no doubt dearly miss living in this one-of-a-kind place where they know they have the option of going to the beach but most likely won’t get off the couch to do so.
